What Controls You – Earthly Desires or Heavenly Ones?

What Controls You – Earthly Desires or Heavenly Ones? “ The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more. ” (Romans 5:20 NIV)  We must be careful about what we desire. Desiring only earthly things, with no thought of the eternal implications, is a formula for disaster.  “ For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ ” (Philippians 3:18–20, NIV).  It is critical that the resurrection power of Christ be at work in our life. As this power grows in the heart of the believer, the spiritual desires to invest our time, talent, and treasure in the Kingdom will overcome desires of a perishable nature...

Be Sure to Pray!

Be Sure to Pray! “Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord” (Isaiah 37:14–15 NIV) I heard someone say that it takes three things to accomplish the purposes of God in this world: prayer, leadership, and money. Often, in our haste to do things or to “do” ministry, we forget to pray for God’s blessing and direction. This is a big mistake. Hezekiah, after receiving a threat to his kingdom from the King of Assyria, took the letter defining the threat, went to the temple, spread it out before the Lord, and prayed about the problem. In response, God moved in a miraculous way and destroyed the enemy. The power to change, the power to overcome obstacles, the power to overcome sin, and the power to defeat the evil one is sourced in Almighty God. We are told to boldly come to the throne of Grace to receive mercy, and to find help in the time of need. Prayer is a key in...

Be an Impact Player

Be an Impact Player “But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to….” (Numbers 14:24 NIV) In football, certain players are designated as impact players. They are players who make a difference in a material way. They are outstanding, enabling their team to be more effective. They are very focused on their mission. Unlike most of the world, they are on their field of life to make a difference. They want to win, and they give everything they have to accomplish their goal. Caleb, one of the spies sent to spy out the Promised Land, was an impact player. The Bible tells us he was a man of a different spirit who wholeheartedly followed the Lord. He was not a lukewarm, indifferent, casual believer. He believed that God could do anything through him. He was on a mission. Because he gave a favorable report based on his faith in God, Caleb was one of the few of his generation whom God allowed to enter the Promised Land...

The World is Passing Away Before Our Eyes!

The World is Passing Away Before Our Eyes!  The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:17 NIV) In 1 John 2:17 we are reminded that the world and the lust of it is passing away, but the man who does the will of God will live forever. These words hit me like a bullet between the eyes. In my own life so many of things I considered so important over the years are now gone! The company I worked for is now gone. Boards of companies I served on are now gone. Just through the aging process, we can see how we ourselves are “passing away.” Our bodies are temporary. Let’s face it. We are only renting or leasing them, having to turn them in at the end of the lease term. The Bible has so many references regarding the brevity of life. One is our life is like a breath that passes by and does not return. Wow! That is really brief! The KingdomNomic thinker develops the attitude, “I am going to live forever!” Because of this he has a fore...

Are You Being Transformed?

Are You Being Transformed? “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2 NIV) God is in the life changing business. He wants to transform us into being more Christlike in all areas of our life. The first step occurs when we place our faith and trust in Christ alone to be our personal Lord and Savior. This is a huge step of faith for us to take. All other religions have people attempt to reach God through works of self-effort, trusting in themselves rather than trusting in the person of Jesus Christ alone to save them. Only the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. In KingdomNomics, we learn to exercise the same faith when it comes to living the Christian life. Only Christ can live it through us, because we do not have that power in and of ourselves to live it. The experience of this life is a process beginning with t...

Concentrate on Eternity

Concentrate on Eternity His disciples remembered that it is written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” (John 2:17)  All of our time, talent, and treasure are temporary as far as this world is concerned; however, what we do with them while we are here will have eternal ramifications. Do we even care? The word “zeal” used by John indicates enthusiasm and passion. How much passion do you have for the things of God? Jesus Christ was consumed with doing his Father’s will while he was in this world. He knew his time here on earth was short. He ensured that all the work that had been given to him was finished by the time he returned to heaven. So, again, what are you doing with your time, talent, and treasure? Are you wasting them on the temporal, disregarding the eternal reality we all are facing, or are you fixing your eyes on the eternal aspects of life? Are you concentrating on the things that God wants you to do? We have the option of laboring for those things t...

Live for Eternal Significance

Live for Eternal Significance “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.” (1 Timothy 6:18-19) True faith involves both knowledge and conviction. We firstknow about God’s saving grace and then we act on that knowledge. Conviction moves us to act. Doing good, being generous, and being willing to share are the fruits of true faith. They are an outgrowth of the seed of faith, just as an ear of corn is the outgrowth of a kernel of corn planted in the soil. Our conviction moves us to do the good works that God has planned ahead for us to do as we walk on the path of faith. As God transforms us by the renewing of our minds, we will find ourselves transformed from being “getters” to becoming givers. As we become givers we will be progressively more concerned with fulfilling kingdom o...

Depend on the Power of the Cross

Depend on the Power of the Cross “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18) Understanding the power of the cross is instrumental in our understanding of the concepts of KingdomNomics. It is by the cross that we are crucified to the world and have new life in Jesus Christ. Paul boasted about the cross in his own life with regard to his relationship to the world and the passions of the flesh. He was dead to them by the power of the cross. The same can be said of us when we apply the power of the cross to our own lives. God’s power overcame Jesus’ death on the cross! And it is the power of the cross that gives us new hope and new perspective for living. Through the power of the cross, we are able to overcome the giants of consumerism and greed. They relentlessly pursue us to keep us from giving to the work of God. It is the power of the cross that enables us to overcome these g...

BEGIN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

Image
Begin Your Relationship with God The key to having KingdomNomics principles for eternal significance become operative in your life is to make sure you have a living and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Once this relationship is established, the living and powerful Word of God can then begin to work in your life as you practice the principles of KingdomNomics. Let’s take a walk together through a few verses of the Bible to show us how we can be sure we have the living relationship God wants us to have with Jesus Christ. It is through the gospel of Jesus Christ that life and immortality have been brought to light giving us the option to enjoy a life now that will echo into eternity. What Jesus Christ Did For Us The Apostle Paul said, “I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. H...
